The first quarter of 2026 has set a remarkable one for what promises to be a defining year for ZESA and the broader energy sector in Zimbabwe. It is with a sense of pride and optimism that I present the First Quarter Megawatt Bulletin, one that captures not only milestones achieved, but also the momentum we continue to build as a national utility at the heart of economic transformation.
A standout highlight of the quarter was Zimbabwe’s successful hosting of the SADC Sustainable Energy
Week (SEW). This prestigious regional platform brought together policymakers, utilities, investors, and energy experts from across the nation, region and the globe, reaffirming Zimbabwe’s strategic role in shaping Southern Africa’s energy future. For ZESA, the event was more than a hosting duty, it was an opportunity to showcase our evolving capabilities, strengthen regional partnerships, and align our operations with the region’s shared vision for sustainable, reliable, and inclusive energy systems. The conversations and commitments emerging from SEW will undoubtedly influence our trajectory in the months and years ahead.
Equally significant is the operational milestone we achieved during this period: zero load-shedding across the entire quarter. This accomplishment reflects the dedication, technical expertise, and coordinated efforts of our teams across generation, transmission, and distribution. It speaks to improved plant performance, enhanced maintenance strategies, and effective demand management. Most importantly, it underscores our commitment to delivering consistent and dependable power to households, industry, and commerce, power that fuels productivity and national growth.
Beyond operations, the quarter also provided meaningful opportunities to connect with our communities and reinforce our corporate values through the commemoration of key international
days. Across our regions, staff actively participated in initiatives marking occasions such as
International Women’s Day, World Water Day, and Earth Hour. These engagements not only highlight
our role as a responsible corporate citizen but also remind us that energy provision is intrinsically
linked to social equity, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development.
