ZESA Celebrates International Women’s Day with a Workshop for Women Employees

ZESA Group held the International women’s Day commemorations at the ZESA National Training Centre (NTC) on Friday 22 March 2024.  The event was attended by 70 women from various subsidiaries and stations of ZESA, in honour of the women’s month.

The ceremony was led by Dr. Chimwai, a lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe, who emphasized the importance of self-awareness and empowerment for women. She encouraged women to inspire each other and recognize their skills, personality traits, values, and interests.

“A great leader is not defined by gender but by their capabilities,” she said. During the workshop, women engaged in self-awareness exercises where they answered questions about their fears, sources of happiness, anger triggers, problem-solving skills, and strengths. The feedback revealed that women are often afraid of failure and being underestimated, find happiness in self-actualization, get angry at injustice in the workplace, and possess strengths such as inspiring others and self-motivation.

Dr. Chimwai highlighted the need for more women in leadership roles, citing their strong communication skills, ability to listen effectively, adaptability, collaboration skills, dedication to work, and more.  Dr. George Manyaya, General Manager -Stakeholders Relations, Communication and Welfare at ZESA Holdings said there is a lot of procrastination from women even when there are adverts for some positions, they tend to ignore them.

The workshop aimed to help women understand themselves better as leaders, balance their various priorities and roles effectively to achieve optimal results, identify internal barriers and overcome them, manage their energy through wellness practices and recognize the importance of presence as a female leader.

Additionally, on the 8th of March every year, the world unites in honouring the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women across the globe. The spirit of celebration reverberated through the halls of ZETDC as various departments/regions came together to commemorate this significant day. From thought-provoking discussions to inspiring initiatives.

ZETDC also embraced International Women’s Day- championing the diversity and strength of women within our ranks. This year women’s day was celebrated under the theme “Inspire Inclusion”.
